It was 2012 and Spanish newspaper Marca decided to run an online poll for its readers to choose the best and worst signings of the year. Looking back, it makes sense that Jordi Alba won as the best but, surprisingly, the worst of the lot was Luka Modrić, who had joined Real Madrid from Tottenham.
How the Croatian went from being the worst signing to becoming a legend of Real Madrid and world football can only be explained in one way: he signed a deal with the devil.
Luckily, with the help of artificial intelligence, I had access to that obscure contract in which I discovered that, as always, the devil had his tail in the bag.
**Contract between The Devil and Luka Modric**
This agreement ("Agreement") is entered into on this 31 of December, 2012, by and between Luka Modrić, hereinafter referred to as "Party of the First Part" or "Modrić", and The Devil, hereinafter referred to as "Party of the Second Part" or "The Devil".
**Recitals:**
WHEREAS, Party of the First Part is a professional football player with a desire to achieve unparalleled success in the world of football;
WHEREAS, Party of the Second Part possesses certain powers and abilities that can influence the trajectory of Party of the First Part's football career;
NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual covenants and promises contained herein, the Parties hereby agree as follows:
**1. Enhancement of Football Career**
Party of the Second Part agrees to use its influence and powers to ensure that Party of the First Part becomes one of the most beloved footballers in the world. This shall include, but not be limited to, leading the best Croatian national football team ever, winning multiple Champions League titles, securing the Ballon d'Or award, and consistently performing at the highest level until his late 30s.
**2. Universal Admiration and Recognition**
Party of the Second Part shall ensure that Party of the First Part receives standing ovations not only from his own supporters but also from rival fans, who shall come to admire his skill and sportsmanship on the field.
**3. Prolonged Football Quality**
Party of the Second Part shall ensure that Party of the First Part's football abilities remain unmatched well into his late 30s, allowing him to continue contributing significantly to his team's success.
**4. Dance Prohibition**
In consideration for the benefits outlined above, Party of the First Part hereby agrees to never, under any circumstances, learn how to dance. This includes but is not limited to any form of dance, whether social, choreographed, or spontaneous.
**5. Duration**
This Agreement shall remain in effect for the entirety of Party of the First Part's football career and lifetime.
**6. Governing Law**
This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction chosen by Party of the Second Part.
**7. Entire Agreement**
This Agreement constitutes the entire understanding between the Parties and supersedes all prior agreements, understandings, and representations.
