In 2017 or 2018, I don't remember exactly, Spain made history by winning the first Cannes Lion Grand Prix in Entertainment with the short film ‘Beyond Money’ by Santander Bank.
In the weeks following the award, the short film directed by Kike MaÃllo monopolised conversations in the office. Everyone had a behind-the-scenes anecdote or was planning to do something similar with another client.
Out of curiosity I asked my football teammates what they thought of it. They were teachers, lawyers, electricians, car salesmen, cooks, architects, and even a stripper, and did not inhabit the marketing and advertising underworld like me.
None of them had seen the Santander short film, or heard anything about it.
That's why, although this week I saw numerous times published the ad for FC Barcelona's first ad, on the occasion of its 125th anniversary, I decided to share it here anyway.
Because there are many people who probably didn't see it and because I really liked how they went to the minimum expression, the smallest thing, to tell the beginning of such a big story.
The smallest ad in history (FC Barcelona).
Translation: Today, 125 years ago, Joan Gamper published the smallest ad in history to found the biggest club in the world.
