The name of this issue of nutmeg fc, the last one before the August break, is a lie. The one I'm going to share today is not a great idea, but a missed opportunity, and it concerns the announcement of the new stadium to be built by AS Roma.
Towards our new stadium (AS Roma).
Four days ago, the Wolf presented the 3D animation of what will be their new stadium with a nod to the city's history.
There are two things that caught my attention when I watched the video.
First, that the discussion of the new stadium has been going on for so long, that many tifosi no longer believe that it will actually happen. However, the year of foundation (1927) appears several times and may be a way of saying that the stadium will be inaugurated in three years time, on the 100th anniversary.
On the other hand, for me it is a huge missed opportunity. Gigantic. Bigger than the stadium itself. Because the model looks nice, but they had the opportunity (they still have it) to emulate one of the most epic stadiums (if not the most) in the history of mankind: the Roman Colosseum.
A stadium in the shape and aesthetics of the Colosseum could have given it additional value and generated even more interest from other fans. It would also give the team the aura of the gladiators.
The symbolism of the Colosseum is so strong that many people believe that the Nike Good vs Evil match is played there, when it isn't.
If there is anyone from AS Roma reading, I ask them to reconsider. They could move on from something nice, but already seen enough like this:
To something epic and purely Roman like this:
Happy holidays and see you in September!
